We were delighted to have been appointed to provide RIBA Stage 3 and 4 design consultancy to support the refurbishment of The Glebe House, Dorset. Described as “a most handsome period country property” dating back in part to the 17th century. Over many years it had not been subjected to inappropriate modernisation and although in reasonable order throughout needed a certain degree of refurbishment

Listed buildings require extra special attention to detail to ensure that modernisation; successful retrofit needs to take into account the construction of the building and ensure the aesthetic character is maintained. Certain retrofit strategies, specifically those for modern construction, are not appropriate for historic and traditional buildings. In the build up to and throughout the project we worked closely with the client and wider design team to complete design with sensitivity and care.
